Thanks,\\ Dale ===== Heads up: tusumai warning ===== **Dennis Mowry** \\ Jul 29 #37891 Could be interesting?\\ [[https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16u3QbvdwJ/|https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16u3QbvdwJ/]] **Susan DeBari** \\ Jul 29 #37892 Not yet a warning. We were at a watch, then upgraded to advisory. See attached Bellingham hazard map. Yellow is hazard zone, green is high ground. Sue [[:tsunami_evac_bham|Bellingham Tsunami Evacuation Plan]] **David Scherrer** \\ Jul 30 #37893 Just observed a line of waves hitting the shore at Boulevard Park. About 1 ft high\\ at 715 am. Could that have been the Tsunami?\\ D **Jackie Cap-A** \\ Jul 30 #37900 There is still some slosh out there, but it's pretty small (a few inches). The figure below (assuming it shows up) is the tidal range at Cherry point. Blue is the predicted tide, and red is what was actually recorded. The purple line at the bottom is the residual, or that part of the wave that is not caused by tides (so the tsunami). The wiggles that you see starting around 0200 local time are just a few inches tall, and they have a period of around 20-30 minutes. If your 1-ft wave was flood-like, with a long period, that could be the tsunami. If it was shorter in period, more likely a wake. {{:locales:bellingham:safety:tsunamiwatch_2025.jpg?direct&550x182|tsunamiwatch_2025.jpg}} Click to enlarge **Larry Bussinger** \\ Jul 30 #37903 I spent the night at Port Renfrew marina on west coast of Vancouver Island. And I kind of had to take the tsunami seriously. At 11:00 pm Sue and I climbed a hill overlooking the marina to await the devastation. Fortunately there was none. Then we got up at 5:00 to motor 7 hrs to Bamfield in pea soup fog using chart plotter and radar. I’m tired! **David Scherrer** \\ Jul 30 #37904 I’ll bet! **Toby Cooper** \\ Jul 30 #37906 Cool story, Larry. You could not have picked a worse place to drop anchor with an 8.8 quake grumbling over the western horizon. But, hey, here’s a thought. Next time – as if another 8.8 is lurking around the corner – just put out to sea. Tsunamis in deep water are harmless bumps. **Larry Bussinger** \\ Jul 31 #37908 We thought of that, but out to sea from Port Renfrew is in the middle of Juan De Fuca straights , at night, in the fog, in the shipping lane! I decided to take my chances on the tsunami.\\ Larry Bussinger **Dorothy Burke** \\ Jul 31 #37909 Taking NoFear to new heights Larry!
