 As the proud parent of Emma McCoy, one of the kids going to the Olympic Hopes Regatta in Prague next month, let me shout out a huge THANK YOU to Steve and Sharon Scoggins!
-Steve has been such a great coach for Emma over the last two years.  He’s been patient with her as she started learning to paddle, he’s encouraged her and helped her develop at her own pace, and helped her discover that she had skills that she didn’t knew she possessed (and certainly I had no clue, either).  When Emma wanted to paddle a superlancer at nationals last year, he was super supportive of her being comfortable in the boat she wanted to paddle in, and helping her grow at a pace that worked for who she is, even if she was in the slowest boat.

-There are good coaches and there are a few bad coaches. I wish all parents understood the sacrifices so many good coaches make in their lives for their athletes... but when you have an extraordinary coach, you see amazing things happen to young athletes. Steve seems to be the extraordinary kind, the kind that lets kids understand excellence. Best of luck in Prague, all!

+Congratulations to Sierra Noskof and Neha Harle, Independent sprint flat-water youth kayakers from Bellingham, that have been named to Team USA for the 2017 Olympic Hopes Regatta ( OHR), Recice, Czech Republic, next month. Sierra and Neha, who are trained with Dan Baharav, competed at the USA sprint c/k Nationals in Florida this last weekend. They made all their age group finals, collected few medals, had fun, and are elated to represent USA in the OHR which is actually the World youth 15-17 years old Championships. Two other young kayakers, Elena Wolgamot and Emma McCoy from Bellingham were named to Team USA as well. This is incredible, only 5 years after founding the BCKST youth flat-water olympic style kayak program that our city young kayakers are reaching outstanding international level !!  Best of time at OHR !!
