Race Support

  • Basic Race Rentals - It is not unusual for the dealers/distributors that rent surfskis and outriggers at big races to sometimes include in their rental agreements as part of the basic rental package or as an add-on, additional support such as organization and transportation for the race and for practice/fun runs.
  • Full Race/Train/(Coaching)/(Lodging) - There is a fairly new kind of support for prominent races (full support/training packages), but for many paddlers these may make participation in a bucket list type of race in a foreign location either possible or just relatively trouble free in terms of what can sometimes be fairly involved logistics.
    • Examples
      • Paddle Africa Freedom Paddle the Mocke's Paddle Africa has started to add some race oriented packages such as the Freedom Paddle
      • Sydney Harbour Surf Club look at their paddle trip listings
      • World Paddle look at their travel menu, includes race packages for Molokai (M2O), the Doctor, the Old Woman, Hells Gates 38, the Makai Cup

Other Paddle Racing

Longer Distance Races

Some marathon races are open to surfskis and/or outrigger canoes, but some of the river races are really rockier and rougher than you want to use a surfski on unless it has a pop-up rudder and sturdy fiberglass or plastic construction designed for some bumping and scraping (acquaint yourself with downriver racing boats?). For some river races you will want some decent whitewater river experience. Many of these races are not at all walks in the park. If you considering entry in any of these races, please do detailed research about what you are signing up for (required running, portaging, dams, weirs, rapids, snakes, bears, hallucinations, etc.). Race course configurations can change from year to year (DYODD)
