===== Surf In and Out? =====

Having grown up surfing and preferring waves (groundswell) without wind, I've been searching for places here where waves wrap behind headlands (Birch Bay, Semiahmoo), and usually it is just okay…but the last few days while folks were apparently peeing and whiteknuckling their paddles during gusts, I practiced in the sloppy reflected waves of the harbor mouth and found a fun circuit where at high tide waves are good (better than MP), provide long rides from the green marker buoy into the Coast Guard station - then turning quickly to keep speed and not huli in the crazy beam seas about 10-ft off the seawall of the small boat yard to the south, would chase down 2-3 ft reflected waves back out. Depending on when the gusts hit, it was generally pretty easy to surf nearly all the way back out. I snapped a movie before heading out, see attached.

Not sure about safety. On the one hand tucking close to the seawalls to get good waves might not be so good if you spill, but on the other hand, at least you would get blown back to shore quickly and be close to the coast guard.

I have to say was a lot of fun, essentially intervals in AND out esp. when gust tried slowing me down to 5-ish….good "shore" practice charging out through bumpy, sloppy stuff, connecting waves in AND out…5.5 miles in 7-8 loops….fun stuff.\\
