How to train on dryland in a way that can benefit your paddling is wide open and possibly only limited by your imagination.
Just as cross training in different water sports can be beneficial for working on areas of weakness in fitness and coping with boredom from to much repetition and similarity of workout - cross training with dryland sports can provide similar benefit as well as helping to maintain general aerobic and strength levels during winters in some locales that are not friendly to on water paddling.
