The Jersey Channel Islands are not part of the United Kingdom. However, while Jersey Island is only 20 km from the Cotentin Peninsula of France, English is the primary language spoken on the islands and they are a British Crown Dependency.

Jersey Tide

Safety

The channel islands have very significant tides and currents which can effect exposure to rocks, shallows, waves and favourable or unfavourable tide races. Do your due diligence on local conditions. Jersey is supported by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) so it is an excellent idea to take a VHF radio with you on marine paddling trips.

Tim Rowe: “our coastline is very rocky so we have to get the tides right to ensure there is enough water over the rocks”
