With the strong south winds and the State parks closed on the Saratoga passage side of Camano, I opted for a downwind paddle on the Port Susan side of the island this morning. Jill dropped me at Tyee Beach and picked me up at Cavalero boat ramp.
The tide was dumping out, and ohh boy the current was strong, stacking up against the wind waves, and must I say Gorge like! The Port Susan Bay has a large round top portion and narrows considerably down to the south which increases the flow velocity as it constricts. A couple sections, especially as I approached points the current was ripping around, really reminded me of Swell City and the Hatchery!
I'm going again tomorrow, this time on an OC1 as it was a bit sketchy running it alone on the ski!
