No days off in the PNW summer race season! Here’s a few highlights from last weekend and mention of upcoming events:
I had the pleasure of racing the Elk River Challenge last Saturday. It was a technical course in and around the Elk River Estuary near Westport, WA. By technical I mean narrow channels, submerged obstacles, shallow water and a necessary degree of routefinding skill. I battled with Peter T and Juraj in their double and Egor K in a single. I managed to hang on to the double for most of the race but they pulled away on the last leg and beat me by nearly a minute. It was a fun and festive event complete with bbq oysters, clam chowder and prizes of fresh crab after the race.

The highlight of the weekend was camping at Vern and Janet Heikkila’s. They are most gracious hosts and we got to hang out with a bunch of Sound Rowers for more bbq and music.
Next weekend is the Round Shaw Row. (…)
Lots happening! Stay safe on the water and enjoy the season!
