It turned out to be a sunny and relatively warm day in Vancouver with only a slight breeze. I guess the cold air follows the Frazer River and then heads for Washington, because we got a light NNW wind up there!
As for the race they had the skis and OC2 canoes line up in front, and 100 meters back all the OC1s. I raced OC2 with Mike Lee and had to (repeatedly) remind him that I'd won this race with Eric Gerstl, Collin Smith, Beau Whitehead and Ashley James, and that we damn well better do so as well!
As we took off from the start we found ourselves amongst the skis and one other OC2 in the front pack. Notable names included Shane Martin, Ana Swetish, Chris Dobrovlny, Trista Bilmer and Brian Page on a double ski and Mike Brenneman and James Hill on the OC2. We were back middle of that pack as we rounded the first turn, but then decided to head up more to the front, and I told Ana, who was next to us but with a boat between, to get on our wake because we were gonna win the race!
Well, we made our way up to about 4th, then held it through the first lap. On the second lap we passed Shane and Brian/Trista and were about a boat length behind Mike and James. we stayed off to the side, not to avoid drafting, but because we seemed to actually run a bit better out in the cleaner water. After the last turn we had to make a minor turn around one buoy then head to the finish. We caught up in the last stretch and were neck and neck for the last few hundred meters with them nosing us out for a photo finish. Although I'd really like to give Mike some crap for not winning, I just can't! It was too close and too fun of a race to do so.

Well done gents.
It would have been a fun race to watch from the front pack.

Thanks Ash. Good to see all the usual suspects.
Don’t believe Alan. He held off on giving crap because I was his ride home.

65 boats! Kinda bigger deal than I thought. Those turns can be tough, just ask Peter M.

I think it's anchored sailboats that Peter has a problem with!
