Hi All,
What turned out to be a 1:15ish paddle ended up being 3 hours. I had just come back from the typical Dot island, Governors Pt. paddle and was seriously outnumber by OC-1's, Like, 8 to 2??? I had already loaded my boat when I noticed some whale watching boats and pleasure boats were all hovering about a mile past the Post Pt. Buoy. Don,Tom and others caught wind of the action and headed out their.
I saw the first fin then scrambled to re-launch and paddle out to the action myself. The whales, a pod of ten, were transients (I overheard the whale boat). They headed right up by the Cement Plant then slowly followed the flats back out of the bay where after some serious boat traffic dodging and some long “intervals” to try and get a better look they swam right by me and hung out for a while (it was right about “NOW” that I remembered I was only in a surfski)….a few spy hops, a little swimming on their backs and slapping the water with their tails….pretty cool for the bay. I pretty much have grown up here and can remember only one other time they came into the bay and it was only around Eliza. Pretty Cool……Peter

Peter….Shaun called me from a power boat off the coast of Lummi between Eliza and Portage and he was in the middle of them. I was tempted to drop the yard tools and paddle out that way. He said that they were headed into the bay. Glad to see that someone got a close encounter.
Anybody up for a long paddle on Monday morning? I promise not to recite poetry.

-Was passing Carter Pt heading for Eliza when the pod cruised though right past me. So smooth and powerful in the water, truly awesome. Went on to Gov.Pt. and back up to B'ham, was surprised to see the Orcas out in the middle of the Bay with a massive entourage of paddle and power boats shadowing them. Kinda like visiting royalty or something.
-Peter M. came out of Marine Park like a shot, “gotta go check 'em out”. When he paddles like that on Weds eve, everybody will be toast.
