Report from Chula Vista Sprint Nationals
It was a good opening day here in the dry heat. Bellingham did some work today. Cameron Bartlett held his own in the 1000 and the 5000 in K-1. He made some good times and placed middle tier. The K-4 bantam Girls bumped up and raced in the Juvy class today because they could and placed 5th against girls considerably older. Elena Wolgamott placed 1st in K1 500, Ana Swetish came in a close 2nd in the same race. After a rest, the K2 bantam women's did a 3K. Ana and Elena smoked the course for a solid first. Sierra Noskoff and Abby Scoggins rocked it for a solid 4th place finish.
Way to go Bellingham kids….we have some national champions. More to follow with two more race days to come!

Day 2 report
Jonas Ecker started the day early with the 1000m. His age group is incredibly tough. There are 11/12 year old boys and 14 year old fully developed men who are shaving daily. He charged hard and finished quite respectably making a PR.
Cameron Bartlett teamed up in a K4 with the Hawaii Juvy guys. They got 3rd. A BRONZE for Bartlett and a chunk of team points.
The Bantam women came out hard In the K2 heats, both boats made the finals. Next up was K4……Swetish Scoggins Noskoff Wolgamot came in….wait for it…….1ST place GOLD. it was a solid finish, with an 8 second gap between 1st and 2nd. After a short rest came the K2 finals. Swetish/Wolgamot placed 1st GOLD and Noskoff/Scoggins came in 4th with less than a second off third. 1st and 4th best K2 in the nation. That's awesome. Swetish and Wolgamot earned the nickname “California Gold Miners”. They are absolutely turning heads.
Jonas Ecker ended the day in the K2 3000, teaming up with South Florida. They rocked it hard for a 6th place finish in a tough group of competitors. Great job!
Good day all around. Tomorrow is the 200's.

Day 3 recap.
200 meter day
The day started cool and cloudy.
Jonas Ecker went out hard in his heat. He laid down a great finish, earning a spot in the B final. He did well in his final, beating out a nemesis and almost taking the other one. He's now on record as #16 in the nation for 200 meter Bantam men. Congratulations Jonas. You're going to see more amazing things from this young man.
Cameron Bartlett had a good 200 heat in K1. He came out again with his South Florida friend in K2, made the final, and then rocked a 5th finish in K2 Juvy Men's. Keep watching him. He's 6'4“ and isn't quite done growing.
Abby Scoggins and Sierra Noskoff both had solid middle finishes in K1 Bantam.
No finals, but smokin' hot times. They went back to their K2 and made the final, making the 4 th fastest time out of the heats. The final heat had a strange start, the horn didn't work…. Excuses excuses(legit), so they finished out 8th in the nation on 200. That's a big honor, especially considering the boat length lost at the start of a 200. Awesome job ladies!
Here it comes folks…,,the California Gold Miners hit it hard. K1 went off like a rocket. Both made the finals. Wolgamot bagged the gold, Swetish grabbed the silver, less than a second behind. K2 was hot stuff. They backed off in the heats, playing it cool. Bantam Finals time…they crushed it…another gold. They heard there was another mine shaft open in the next age group up. Turns out it was a lode of Silver they discovered. They finished less than a boat length from the older girls fresh home from Junior Worlds. Their time actually would have put them 4th in Senior(18)division. It's totally NUTSO! These girls need an extra seat on the plane home for all the medals.
They day ended with a Masters 5K. I thought I had scratched the race, but ended up still on the schedule. I haven't been doing any K1 lately, and didnt plan on racing, so I left my boat at home. Cameron was nice and let me borrow his K1 and I went out Wednesday race style for a Bronze. I always forget how tippy those boats are after a break from them. It'll be good to get back to the ski.
Cool event. Well run. Every event on time for 3 days straight. Awesome fun in the deserty sun.

While USACK does not have any rules against drafting out of class, Steve may have taken it a bit far during his masters 5000 race…..
