Interesting. The weather was clear and calm. So many boats and schwag and stuff. The event seemed to run really smooth. Results were up right away. I think Jeff & Teresa K took first. Gabe and Brandon must have had quite the duel. I think it was Gabe by 10 seconds. Paul and LB challenged each other while working off two OC-2's that were dukin it out. (Pete & Mike vs. Bob Day and somebody.) I was part of that pack until about 1/2 way through the race. MG and Vanessa took the line to the south of the channel and I thought they were toast, but they powered up coming back across the channel and blew past me at the turn. I knew Traci and Heather were not far back. When I started getting slower at the half-way point I could feel the girl-power sights on my back. At the sprint from the last turn to the finish MG and I were doing a mad-dog macho throw-down. But Vanessa spoiled it by cranking it up and slamming the double across the finish first. Next was Heather, then Traci (sure enough they had been reeling me in for that last part of the race).
There was a ton of double ski's out there. Morris and Debbie finished in the early pack. Team 205 was up there somewhere. There was a bunch of yelling a screaming at the finish for a long time as touring boats, SUPs, peddle-boats, and even a couple of unlimited paddleboards came off the course. Diversity rules.
Food was superb. Great to have instant gratification results up. The DPD race crew has got this race dialed in really tight.

Great race…. again. Two great weather years in a row. We are due for another epic DPD I'd say. How did they do awards this year? I either missed them or they didn't happen….
Hats off to the organizers… one of the best run races I've been to.

Gabe may have crossed the finish line first for the kayaks, but that's only because Brandon, Debbie and Morris pulled him around the course!

Those that did the DPD this year found a Canoe & Kayak magazine in their racer kit-bag. The shirt is exceptional this year. But the real treasure is on page 28 of the magazine. Reg Lake gets a one page write up. It's worth a look. He's such a gentle-natured fellow, you would never guess that he's such a paddling giant. I believe the boat refered to in the article is Reg's collaboration with Sterling. They had hoped to have it ready for DPD, but alas, the gel-coat was not cured out in time.
I've never actually gotten him to talk about his adventures, but when we talk about paddling together his enthusiasm and philosophy come out to play. He is a genuine statesman of the kayak sport. …Living in Ferndale, WA. How about that.

We are lucky to have so much humble paddling talent in our community, eh?
We've enjoy running into Reg out in the islands while on weekend paddling trips, whether it be skirting along Patos just before sunset, or passing each other in narrow channels up in Johnstone Straits, it is always great to see his smiling face while paddling around remote waters~
Reg's creativity to the paddling world continue off of the water as well- from his recent video of Warren playing in the pass to helpful expeditioning inventions such as the Brew Mug, his contributions continue to keep us kayakers happily wanting more!
~Kudos to Reg for getting the publicity he deserves!

OK Reivers, from what I can tell, our fan club wants us in speedos. Which leaves me a bit puzzled! Larry B

er, Uh, fur-lined speedo's? And we know how difficult it is to suck in the gut while in a seated position.
Our big contribution to the food bank will be to make everyone lose their appetite.

All:
It appears my “fur lined” comment in a related post has struck a note with the Northern Boating Bretheren.
I'll redouble my efforts to find a supplier of the originally mentioned, and now it apears, highly sought after, “fur lined wet suit shorts”.
No promises, but if found, I'll talk to Dave Jensen, see if we can't raffle them off at the US Champs in 2011.
