We just got back our extended weekend at the Gorge.
The conditions were great from Thursday through Saturday with winds hovering in the high 20s to low 30s, with Sunday winds dropping into the high teens.
Kai Bartlett, who has won the Molokai several times and dominated the Pailolo channel this year showed up on Friday afternoon and was very impressed with the conditions on the Home Valley run! Upon being told that the Hatchery area often was twice as big, his eyes lit up…..he may try get a partner and come to the Wildside if he can swing it.
Saturday's OC-6 race had steady winds and good surf, but since it is a triangle race, the upwind portion was brutal!
Sunday's downwind race had lower winds, but still some bumps to catch. Kai managed to pass Shane Martin in the small bumps for first overall, while Don Irvine and I battled back and forth with several lead changes before he finished me off on a couple small bumps just before the finish to take me by 8 seconds for second place in the OC-1 division, Collin Smith and Mike Hammer had a strong showing on the OC-2
