Hot 5: Race#3

There were some burning questions heading into last night's race.

Is Peter's lead too big to overcome?

How will Larry B's return shake up the senior surfski division?

How hard is it to actually stand up on a paddleboard??

Different folks may have different answers to these questions. Apparently Beau is quite capable of standing up on a board and cruised to victory in a large SUP field, earning huge points and bringing him even with Peter atop the standings. Heather also had a strong race on SUP and moved into a tie for third with Dennis. Kirk was solid as always and sits tied with rising star Ana Swetish for the fifth spot overall.

Mark W. and Larry B. made their series debuts and Reivers, being the kind fellow he is, decided to spot them a minute+ at the start just to keep things fair.

Young Wilson Reavley had a great start and hung near the front pack for a good part of the race. Also, Dave Hooper, Roger Lamb and Bob McBeath represented the surfski contingent and Dan Moseley was the lone OC.

The most impressive stat of the night: Only one (maybe two?) of the stand up paddlers had ever done a SUP race before!! I commend you guys for trying something new.

Next week it's back to the skis. Double points for all surfski paddlers. We will have support and safety in place for a downwind course. Hopefully the current pattern of wind keeps up and the long range forecasts are looking decent so far.
