Tonight’s race will be a relay format. Three person teams will be “randomly” drawn at registration. Any craft is welcome. Teams will complete 9 laps, 3 each member. Two of the 9 laps will be shorter Hot Laps. They can be done at any time except the first and final lap. All members of the team will score the same number of points for the week.

Currently Alan is leading in the standings with Duncan close behind. Denise and Peter sit tied for third.

Registration at 5:00, race meeting at 5:45, race at 6.

Hot5 Race #3

When I started this series my goal was to design races that were challenging, exciting and fun. I think Thursday’s race accomplished at least 2/3. The modified diamond course (with shifting gybe mark) in relay format plus stiff SSW breeze produced some entertaining results.

Six 3-person teams completed 9 laps of the approximately 1 mile course. Each racer did three laps and 2 of the 9 were shorter “hot laps”. Racing was tight nearly the whole way with lead changes almost every lap from the midway point to the finish. In the end Erica dropped the hammer with a blazing final lap the secure the victory for her team.

For the point series the race was scored like a normal division with each team member receiving the same number of points. Everyone received 1 bonus point for participating in the madness. “Mr. Consistent” Duncan Howat took advantage of Alan’s absence to take over the series lead. Another strong showing by Erica moved her into second place with Denise taking a share of third.

The series title will be based on the best 4 of 5 results. With two more races there is still going to be lots of movement around the leaderboard. Next week’s race is going to be a random bonus. I’ll bring a “wheel of fortune” to Monday Intervals and we will spin it to find out the theme. OC? Doubles?? SUP???
