Deep Cove Race

Well, Team USA managed to send half a dozen midweek troopers up to Vancouver for the final Tuesday night race, and it was total fun! What a beautiful place, friendly good people, and a great race venue. Since its getting dark earlier now, a one mile triangle course was set up in the cove, and it was pretty much an all out three lap sprint affair. There were a lot of doubles out, and Kirk and Morris were fully stoked, having duked it out until the end with Gareth T-J and Chris D. In the interests of positive international relations, and since the Canadians did actually control the post-race beer supply, Team USA graciously gave them the race at the end, by half a nose. Kim and Duncan did well by taking first and second in single ski's, and Adrienne and I, racing in a double for the first time, had a total blast (good thing the video didn't catch me resting while she paddled hard). Lots of great paddlers up there, but most impressive is how many newcomers and intermediates they get on the water, and into the sport.

The party at the yacht club was unlimited pizza and great videos of the race, and Bob P. even bought everyone's first beer. I think he did that so that we would laugh at his jokes. Actually, his jokes were good, but don't tell him I said that. Since it was the last race of the season, there was seemingly unlimited swag, and the most awesome Deep Cove staff were all honored for their work. A most classy and generous and friendly affair, and the whole thing was fully worth the drive.

We should definitely be pulling water more alongside these good folks. Talkin' with them, I'm thinking we should make one of those Ambleside excursions that they keep describing. Really, rolling six footers, just across the border? And, Bob said that if we came up, he'd buy the first round afterwards.
