Thank you Brandon Nelson and your team of volunteers for putting on an exceptional race. Another Lake Whatcom Classic is in the books.
The weather was perfect, the chili was delicious and abundant, and the company was exceptional. I also noticed that there was significantly less cussing than last year. All around a great day.
See you all on the water!

Brandon….It truly was a great race. The best part was that I was able to get Shaun out of rehab, dust him off, and show him that his paddle wasn't really just an extra large size coke spoon. I'm sorry that we weren't able to get Lipp over agitated as we had in previous races. There is always next year.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT FOR THE LAKE WHATCOM CLASSIC THIS YEAR!!!
First and Foremost, thanks to our A-M-A-Z-I-N-G volunteers!!!
Denise Dibb Thompson and Ann Gunderson, all I can say is WOW!!! You two could take over the world! We could NOT Have done this race without you!!!
Marc Blake, Mia Cryder, Michael Medler, Tom Gilliard, John Rybczyk, Peter Marcus… your stepping up to fill in is beyond appreciated!
And once again, THANK YOU Summit to Sound Search and Rescue for having two boats and your awesome crew out on the water, placing and retrieving the course buoys, and watching over us!
RESULTS ARE UP, LONG COURSE: http://www.webscorer.com/racedetails?raceid=41825&did=47740
SHORT COURSE: http://www.webscorer.com/racedetails?raceid=41825&did=47741
What a perfect day for racing (especially if you remembered to bring some hydration!!!) It was truly a highlight for me seeing Shaun Sullivan and Larry Goolsby reunited and still able to edge out the 5 other boats that came in tightly packed! And there were so many other highlights!!! New short course record by sculler Dave Deschenes IN 36:10.0 – way to go Dave! The youth paddling presence was AWESOME!!!! Anna and Abby were in perfect sync and looked so strong in the tandem, and Cameron and Jonas showed us all we've got a very short few years until we're chasing to catch them. The female HPK category has some passionate new faces out there in Sharon Scoggins and Marin Millar, joining those always-awesome regulars of Vanessa, E'Lana, Sandy and Heather.
The men's HPK had three new racers on the podium in Nicholas Cryder, Kevin Olney and Steve Scoggins. And these guys are all relatively NEW to the sport!
AND SO, SO, SO MANY OTHER RACERS that deserve applause and recognition!!!
I OWE AN APOLOGY to David Scherrer, Marc Whitlock, Duncan Howat. These over-60 HPK enduro-animals should've been recognized at awards, but we hadn't categorized for ages in registration so I failed to separate them out as I was reading from the iPad. WAY TO GO, GUYS!!! I'll have ribbons for you at the Wednesday nighter!!!
And did I forget YOU? I am so sorry! I know there are others who put a lot of work into training and racing, and you deserve to be recognized!!! Please give each other a shout out, and THANKS AGAIN!!! It's such a joy being part of our amazing racing and paddling community!
See you next year!!!

What brand was the wonderful hydration drink in the big yellow jug available after the race? This way over 60 lady racer enjoyed its recuperative powers.
So glad, Brandon, that you ordered up such great weather and happy racers.
Cheers….Sandy G.

Hmmm…. this is a very interesting question Sandy. We had a blue jug but no yellow ones, and it was filled with generic lemonade powder mix from Cash-n-Carry.
I've got 3 more packets of it that you are absolutely welcome to have!!! Where should I drop them?
Nice racing!!!!

Guess I was more tired than realized if I remember yellow as even dropped my ski in the parking lot. Thanks, I'll check out Cash-n-Carry for their magic formula. Whatever it was, it helped mixed with a little delicious coffee.
Great job, Sandy G.
