SO stoked and proud of our local paddling crew about to throw down at the U.S. Nationals today. Send your strong and fast vibes to Heather, DJ, David S. and Steve Scoggins!!! (And of course, Good Luck to ALL racers!) Heather mentioned there are 44 international racers, as well as paddlers from 15 different U.S. states! What a field!

GO Whatcom Paddlers!!! Send us stories ASAP.

Wind will crank up in the afternoon (westerly 15-20knots through the gate). Glad the race is on the flood. If race organizers haven't told racers, tell them to keep an eye out for the fishing boats. The salmon run on the Marin coast is very good, with fishers catching a lot of 4-yr olds weighing 15-30 lbs. Although party boats will be right off Muir Beach and along the course until the Bridge, it's the private fishing boats that might be a problem.

Sharp eyes, paddle hard, throw down… Good luck to all!

Wow!! Austin took 5th place! I can't find any results past 10th. Are they posted somewhere?

First report form San Fran… Results aren't posted. Not yet. The field was stocked with heavy hitters. And that is no exaggeration…..looking around it was clear that we were temporarily out of the bush league. Pretty sure Heather rocked it. David made a good start and held it. I don't think I finished very well, but I don't care. I just went out and had fun. Loads of fun. The water is really interesting outside the gate and it was cool to see it do its thing up close and personal. Coming in under the bridge is really quite charming. The waves were pure bliss from Angel Island to the finish. Polite and orderly waves, large but not jaw droppers. Just a damned good time.

Next year I expect a bigger Bellingham turnout.

Just heard from Heather…
She was first place masters woman.
David was first place golden master.
Steve had an awesome awesome time!
DJ was too sick to race. So sorry DJ you would've killed it!!!
Sean Rice was first place overall.
I think she said Clint Robinson was second.
Austin was fifth overall.
Oscar was first place silver master? Or senior master? Something master. He killed it.
I'm not sure how Kiesling or some of the other heavy hitters did. I think Heather said that Dawid was fourth.
Huge congratulations to all racers! The Bellingham crew made us so proud!

USSSC did not disappoint. A tough start with nasty side chop but strong current from behind. 16 kph on flat water!!?? Don't know what that translates in Mph, but its pretty fast for not surfing.

I got a good scare from a sea lion who was either as equally scared to showing some up close and personal aggression.

Sean Rice defended his title like a champ. Taking the hot spot too. Head to head surfing to the finish with he and Jasper. Sean took the last gap to pass through the dilapidated pier, brushing his shoulder on the support while surfing past. Jasper missed and had to go under the pier losing valuable seconds. I got to surf across the line with Heather.

Next week Canadian Surfski Champs, all be big dogs get to go head to head again will Jasper want vengeance? You bet but not they have Hank McGregor to contend with. That's right! Hank will be at the Canadian Surfski Champs.
Registration cuts of Wednesday. Check in BBQ Friday and post race BBQ forecast is for sun. pray for wind!
