Brandon, Heather, Veronica and Edoh are racing for KayakforCare. Their efforts are going into winning their classes, but also, to continue raising funds for hospice care.
They race not just for glory and bragging rights, but to give to and sustain their contribution to our community. How about sending a donation to kayakforcare.com and help Brandon and Heather continue their good works? Their help is very much needed in Whatcom County.

Brandon and David have crossed the finish line at Dawson City in 40 hrs 37 minutes (a new record?). At the last checkpoint, the second place boat was 2 hrs and 20 minutes behind them. No other boats have finished as of yet. Carter Johnson is still in first place in men's solo kayak, Heather is still in first place in women's solo kayak, and Veronica and Edoh are still in first place for mixed tandem canoe. Go paddlers!

Way to go Brandon and David!!! Yep, crushed the old record by more than 2 hours. Old record was 42:51:55, Brandon and David done in 40:37:05! Wow!!! Brandon and David's victory photo is up on the Yukon Quest home page!
Hopefully we will see the results for Heather, Carter, Edoh and Veronica soon! Another gutty performance by local paddlers. Glad to be learning from all of you, and hopefully some day soon not left too far behind all of you!

Wow. Everyone came in first in their respective classes. Brandon and Dave and Heather blew their class records outta da water. V&E were superb. Bellingham rocks!!!
In two days, Heather is going to take a crack at establishing a Guineess record for Women's 24-hours on moving water. I won't be surprised if she comes back to Bham to set up the course for the women's flat water record, as well.
Hey Carter…..

Carter…..Hopefully you are back from the Yukon by now. Congratulations on your big win in the Yukon Quest. Is there any word if and how Heather did on her world record attempt? If you get a chance, post us a letter on how the race was in a single kayak.

Larry- Heather's wrist blew up on her on the last leg of the YRQ so she duct taped her hand to the paddle in order to finish the race. As a result she's giving her hand a month to heal before putting any repetitive demand on it again. She canceled the WR attempt. She said she might try a river down here when she's ready.
BTW, Outside Magazine has ranked B'ham the #1 paddling town in the US. Sigh.
