Hi All,
Peter fired me up to play with my GoPro and iMovie, so under the weather last weekend I made a movie of what many locals are claiming was the most extensive coastal flooding they have seen of Boulevard Park - something likely to occur more frequently with sea-level rise.
Soon we can paddle right up to the pavillion!
See you tomorrow…
Eric

We have king tides every year at this time of year and this year they happen to a tad bit higher because of the gravitational pull from the closer than usual alignment of the sun and moon. Throw in a storm surge to coincide with high tide and you have, as Peter said, a natural watering system for the lawn. California is having unusually high tides… in fact, the entire western coast of the US and Canada are having king tides right now. This weekend could bring even higher water levels to Blvd Park than last week, particularly since we have heavy rain and wind forecasted for tomorrow and Sunday. With the wind pushing the flood tide north into a relatively captive basin (Bellingham Bay) combined with the increased outflow from the Nooksack we MIGHT see the high water level reach the patio at Woods Coffee on Sunday morning. Paddle up to the window and order a latte.
