Really wonderful conditions. Too big for most of us out by the big red can. Wind was a bit heavy when we put in and some of the big dogs got excited and did a downwinder from Larrabee. Reports are that it was not so great down at south part of the run. Best stuff was near b'ham bay.
But things modulated (four bit word for changed). Wind eased a little more from the SW and less heavy gusts. A few folks showed up late (Dean, LB, Eric W.) Eric made it down to Whiskey and said wind came back up as he was down there and gave him good stuff coming back into bay.
Waves were special today. I don't remember ever having them roll in from SW like that. With the flood and wind there were big wide sets moving through. Once in a while some real chest slappers coming at us on the way out. Nobody wanted to go past the dry dock very far on their runs because of that snarky easter that comes across the boat launch area. Didn't matter. Those fat rides were fast and growly. Even the two OC-2's had all they wanted. LG busted steering system on his demo R. Second time this week for one of his boats to go lame. Don't set your boat down next to his - might be contagious.
Warm, but heavy wind - so a couple of new layers were out there. Duncan pulled on his full wetsuit and felt good with it. Sure didn't slow him down on the rides. Nik had a new system from O'Neil on. Drysuit type upper with neoprene lower. Since Nik went with the downwinder guys he overheated, but might have been ok going upwind.
Regards Dragon Run: I don't recall Heather getting dumped by rough water. This confirms for me that I don't have the beans for that race. When the big dogs say stuff like, “yeah, it can be technical” or “There's some places where it's hard to get good leg drive”, - that says to me: “Danger Will Robinson”. … goldang crazy kids out there in those goldang fiberglass slipper-boats. somebody gonna get their eye poked out.

That commentary made me laugh. :)
Thanks for the details.

Yup. We managed to score the one viable flatwater session from Wildcat to MP this morning. Strange to get skunked on a day with so much wind, but we pulled it off. I think it was because I was blabbing so much about how I like the V8Pro for surfing, the weather God decided to zap us. Sorry guys.
I'm trying an Oniel Assault hybrid dry suit out this winter. Very impressed with the suit so far… but not be worn on a day close to 60°. It's a strange feeling to finish a paddle and be completely dry. I was a lot more talkative which says a lot. But for the record, if at any point you see me swim this winter I am merely trying to cool off. Honest.
