These two (Tom & Ana) were just putting in when I got down there this morning. It was lit up boyz n girlz.
None of my weather sites predicted this. LB, LG and Heather jumped on it with me and we rode those waves into the ground. Freakish good. LB had his skinny boat 'cause it was dead flat calm at his house. He stayed in the steeps at MP while us three toked up on rides from the tunnel all the way to the marina.
It was a long grind home from the marina. Lots of 'bow spank' going on. Couldn't stand to end it on an upwind so worked past MP to the first point and turned to ride the train back to take out. Tons of seaweed. Some tug traffic pulling a giant thing around and around the bay. We think he was trying to run us down, but we smoked him. They were probably trying to get that big module into the dry dock, but the wind said no.
Alan was ripping it. Simon and Austin were out there somewhere (never saw them). Probably some downwinders getting set. Nice wide chest high greenbacks running out there this morning.
Go ahead, some of you think your crystal ball works? Sure baby.

I put in as LB was coming out. He talked me into a straight shot, red buoy to Cornwall Beach on the strong SW wind and I'm glad I took his advice. I thought LB would be the kind of guy who meets a fella at Cornwall Beach with his car after a downwinder and gives a fella a ride back to MP, but apparently LB is the kind of guy who goes home for lunch after a paddle instead. So, I too had to grind it back upwind to Marine Park. On the way back I discovered an amazing, clean, big swell train running parallel to and about 10 yards off of Boulevard Park, waves apparently jacking up in the shallows, so I had to turn around and ride those three or four times while kids on the new beach threw rocks at me.
Simon and Austin elected to do a downwinder from Wildcat Cove. I'd like to hear how that went. With the strong SW I wonder if they had to deal with broadside waves for the first half, not that either of them would have even noticed or cared.

Hah, John, no wonder you disappeared on the inside as I headed back to MP…..I almost thought you'd parked at Boulevard Park!
The westerly flow really kicks in as a nice SSW here in Bellingham in the summer. It seems that the forecast models really don't get it right on onshore flow here in Bellingham. If the regional forecast overview calls for strong onshore flow, you can be pretty certain that there will be bumps in the north end of the bay. My observations are that it is usually quite westerly and light down by Wildcat, then by the time you reach Chuckanut Bay the wind swings around to SSW, kicks up nicely and the waves get very rideable.
The Gorge is fun, but so is Bellingham!
