c'mon davie!!!! what could possibly go RONG.

Besides, what else you got going? …a round of miniature golf? shoot some pigeons? roller skate in a buffalo herd? oh. At least come down and look at the buffaloes.

The lake is looking more like an option today.

Wave at me when I zip by at 9… I’ll be the guy with the neoprene chaps and flame orange cowboy vest and matching sombrero screaming “yeeeeehhhaaaawww!!!” (Not that you’ll hear me).

Nicholas, just be sure to way back, one hand on the paddle, 1 in the air.

Hmmm.
Might go to the lake today.

Ubered to Wildcat Cove and the boat ramp had a huge log rolling all over it on the high tide. Putting in was a little like the game loggers play, but carrying a ski as the waves pounded the ramp. Pretty comical. The Uber driver who stuck around to watch me paddle out was likely less than impressed.

Once out of the cove it was sufficiently burly on the beam to make one contemplate ones life journey that lead one to become a regular at the adrenaline junkie red light district. Paddled out to the deep end for about 1k, and after pointing it downhill it was like having tantric sex with death… or so I hear from those informed with what that’s supposedly like. The Doldrums where more like “the natives are restless and f’ing hangry”, and it was the usual abuse of Donkey Kong style confused water before Governor's at the exit of Chuckanut bay. But once clear of Post Point the manic intensity was directed due North and it was proper a rager all the way to beach… where some big logs were apparently in heat and mating in the impact zone. If you ever wondered where they come from now ya know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Once safely ashore and shivering as the dopamine faded I realized I had parked at the harbor and spaced it on my downwind binger. Rather than do the paddler walk of shame, called wifey and she came to shuttle me back to harbor where I chatted up some of the local outrigger gang who were less than thrilled with my conditions report.

Already a nominee for the best downwind debriefing description of 2021!…😆

I ran into your Uber driver at MP, when I went down and chose not to go in. He was still kinda shaking his head about your ride…

Fire boat and Coast Guard and fire engine called out at 10:02am for a “kayaker” in distress near Fairhaven.

Who’s gonna confess? (-:

I would love to know if this was a false alarm. The CG used to get a lot of calls from people who saw a paddler out in really big conditions (but not really in trouble).

Nick Kelly

That is my guess.

I talked with a firefighter a bit after I finished my paddle. He said the caller saw a group of 4 kayakers that fell in and were having a hard time getting back on. I was out at that time and so was Kevin, Jonas and someone else. Kevin and Jonas were paddling together but me and the other paddler were by ourselves. I stayed upright and I’m guessing so did Jonas and Kevin.

It is possible that a small group of touring boats put in at the boat launch. None of us would likely have seen any of that. This is most likely explanation I have since none of our gang was in a group of four and as far as I know none off their boat.

You are correct Nick, The initial report was 4 kayakers, one in the water, with the other 3 assisting. Who ever it was self-rescued prior to responders arrival, per the RP.

Anyone seen or heard from David S? He was the nut out there and the last in the water after Nick, Kevin & Jonas got out.

Didn't see him today,

I should mention: this matters because for a couple of years after the Bip incident the coast guard was on notice from Olympia that if there were any more kayak/SUP/OC problems then there would be regulatory or legislative intervention by the State of Washington. By now we have gone off the radar.

However, as a group we want to be able to account for ourselves if there is any incident. At the post-Bip discussion at the CG office the representative said that it may not matter because once the wheels begin turning it becomes a regulatory process. But it might matter a great deal. For example, we might have a reasonable case if this particular problem was some touring boats that we had no knowledge off AND we knew what we were doing and had no problems. So the CG keeps a log, but probably does not distinguish surfski or OC boats from kayaks or canoes.

If we show up on the radar, it would be great to say with confidence: on that date … yadda yadda.

Ah well I am fine, and thanks Dennis for helping me launch….After a few laps, gusts picked up and were threatening so I got off the water…Fortunately Dean was on shore and helped me scramble up through the surf.

After first checking Camano Island State Park and deciding the waves were pushing onshore too much to make it around the first point I decided to try Cama Beach instead. It was a no go, and if you're offended by profanity I believe I threw a couple F and Sh*t bombs in there, so please mute it!

That would be a big nope! Far too risky to try that and get slammed into the wall. I can see why it would be tempting though… Hmm.
Some BIG wind again today! Unfortunately I am glued to shore with duties calling… F-bomb S-bomb… LOL !

A group of OCs met at the harbor around 9:30 with shuttle plans. With gusts over 50 and forecasts calling for stronger wind mid-day, we decided to abort the mission.

Fresh off an early morning run, Nick roll up at the end of our parking lot chat to report ultra-sketchy conditions.

Stay safe!

Oh Mr. Lipp, just channel your childhood, pretend you are at the Waikiki Wall/Kuhio Beach breakwater, aka the “boneyard”, jump off that wall and surf the rebound right out.
