Saratoga Passage/ Kanaka Ikaika virtual race

With all the posts about my former stomping ground up at Birch Bay, I have say it's been pretty good down here as well.

I've been waiting for good conditions for the Kanaka Ikaika virtual race: 5 miles short course or 10 miles long. Since getting 10 good downwind miles is a bit problematic here on Camano Island, I've been concentrating on the 5 mile event, trying to time the wind with a favorable tidal current.

Results (all OC1):

Thursday, south wind gusting to near 50, tide just starting to come in. Gotta admit, being alone out there I was kinda holding my a$$ a bit and only managed an 8.9 mph average and time of 33:58

Friday, north/northwest wind 20 to 25, strong outgoing current heading south. Speed 9.2 mph time 32:33

Saturday, nearly identical conditions to Friday with just a bit less wind for the first couple miles, then about the same. Speed 9.0 mph, time 33:23

Today is looking good as well and I'll be going after the Seahawks game, either on my surfski or on the OC2 if I can convince my wife to go.
