I dunno about anyone else, but last Wed. had some SKANK on it!!! It was a rock-a-hula good time for me thats a gawrauntee. It started out great with me getting noticed for my very stylish 'clown pants'. All the ladies seem to want me to take them off. (I have a suspicion that it was not to see my legs.)
The race had a couple of, like, cosmic features. There is a lot of people starting with the big dogs. Back in the day, there was a select few that gave everyone else a ten minute lead then blasted past them while comparing espresso preferences. Wednesday? -not so much of that. The middle of the pack is hella-tough. Cosmic feature no.2: rough water paddling technique has gone nuclear. That was a 'bumpy' race. I saw Marc bury his arm past the elbow in a brace of Hercules where he saved a dump. (yea, I was behind him most of the race.) Duncan said he 'Speared about a thousand trout in the lake' because of his braces, but he never got his hair wet. I know of one guy who dumped, but was laughing about it and jumped back in and put the hammer down. Jeeze. I never saw anyone who needed close watching.
This all feels wierd to me. Maybe it's because Mikey Bevins was out there that night. He's the one who did Wednesday nighters before anyone else. There were maybe four or five of us guys who paddled and would recognize him.
Just this: something good is going on. Two blades or one, there's some strong spirit building here.

Reivers is right. Besides the awesome Wednesday night wind and crowd, there's been a mojo going on with our group. I can't believe that more paddlers didn't Hooli in those conditions. A year ago, we would have DC'd the racing and waited to see if the swimmers could get back into their boats. Wednesday night's crowd didn't flinch when mother nature showed her hand. Next stop, Bowen Island….

Was it lumpy out there? Sitting in the back seat of Boatman's OC; all I noticed was oxygen debt.
