Starting next week we will be having races every Thursday evening from Marine Park. This will be a points series featuring a different course each week. Courses range from 2.2 miles to 6.5 miles. The series is open to single surfski/kayak, OC-1 and SUP. Other boats are welcome to race but only singles are eligible for points.
Scoring will be based on the number of boats in a division.
1st place: # of boats +1pt
2nd place: # of boats -1pt
3rd place: # of boats -2pts
4th place: # of boats -3pts
etc….
Divisions are:
Surfski
Under 18
19-40
41-60
60+
OC-1
Under 45
45+
SUP
(Note: we can add divisions if there are enough boats to support it.)
In the interest of promoting different paddling disciplines we will award double points to OC on week 2, SUP on week 3 and surfski on week 4.
Registration will be open online and starting at 5:00 on race day. There will be a pre-race meeting at 5:45 and the start will be at 6:00

PFD and leashes are required.
Parking might be a bit tight at the park so please consider carpooling or launching at the Community Boating Center.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone next Thursday, August 3rd to kick off the series!

Kevin's race in the bay last night was really fun and refreshing (given the warm weather). Timing, safety boat, numbers, signed releases, good course, what more could you want. Well then dinner at Dos Pardares, which I couldn't make. I can foresee in the future, if it's blowing from the south , good paddle up and a shot down wind. Not too long, not too short. Just right for a evening paddle. Nicely done Kevin. D

Thanks Duncan and everyone else who raced last night! Calm air and still water made for a 2.91 mile speed workout. Cryder took line honors and Kirk jumped out to an early lead in the point series by winning the largest division (surfski 41-60) and 2nd overall. Josh Dyck keeps moving closer to the front pack and Ana Swetish continues to best paddlers of all ages.
Peter Marcus lead all OCs and Duncan took the top spot in the surfski Men of Distinguished Character and Duration division. It was great to see Rob Rogers and Dan Mayhew getting into the racing scene as well.
In total there were 13 skis and 3 OCs. Next week will be Outrigger Week where we award double series points to all OC divisions followed by a post race party at Aloha Poke in Fairhaven. Hopefully our normal wind patterns return and we can set a downwind course (with better air quality).
