Immediate gratification?

Remarkably quiet on this listserve, given the conditions on the bay. Anyone thinking about eating marshmallows from Larrabee to Squalicum this morning? Or from Anacortes to Bellingham?

Or maybe y'all are already out there…

Sounds good! Call me

I'm parked by my computer watching web-cam - link:

Got a bag of chips and bowl of salsa. Just finished my bowl of beer and cheerios.

This is gonna be good. So far I count three OC-1's. I hear that DMow and Mark W are going at 10. I think David talked them into going, but don't know for sure if Davey is going.

LB is out on his powerboat and probably has plenty going on right there. LG has decided to stay healthy so someone at the hospital knows what these crazy guys were doing out there - if any of them end up there.

Rock-a-hula baby.

Just saw a wind spike at 40. Fast, big ebb running until about 1:00pm. Wind looks dead southerly so there's a flat spot at MP for launch. Don't need to go very far out for the bigs. Wish I could go. Since I can't I'm going to try to scare all-you-all with the boogeyman wind. whoooo-eeeeiih!

And every time it gusts, it's hard to watch the MP cam 'cause the tower shakes!

Saw a couple of OC1s making runs earlier this AM; looked like a lot of work going South, and a lotta fun going North…
And all the motorized traffic is heading North to harbor, whilst the paddlers do loops…

Ah Darn It! People keep wanting to send me money. Oh well.. back to work. I probably won't make it until early afternoon.

Yep! Windy and fun out there. But there were other adventures. Howard and I were out with new guy Jonny. It was his third time in his new Bluefin and his second time in wind, so we were trying to keep it mellow out of the Boating Center. Lots of adventure was had in the big wind and Jonny put his considerable swimming skills to use far less today than yesterday. However, just as we were wrestling the boats onto the cars, an old guy runs up to us asking for help. He had let go of the rope on his 20' aluminum Hewescraft while putting it in the water and it was quickly heading to sea. On its way to Squalicum harbor, it hung for a few seconds on the last log in the water of the boat ramp, Howard starting to rig up for some sort of desperate surfski effort, but Jonny jumped in and got to the rope just as the boat slipped off the log. Then came the tricky part. He swam the 2000 lb boat back up into the wind. Good fun!

9:30 DW from Wildcat. It was nukin’ and fun. Super technical and gusty. I’m sure Beau will post something.

Jeez Paul, I was really hoping you’d elaborate more so I didn’t have to(-:

I had perma-grin the whole run. The east component made for the usual multi-directional peaky stuff outside Chuckanut Bay. But waves were so steep there you could do one stroke drop-Ins.

I went pretty far outside and the gusts really wanted to relieve me of my paddle a few times. We all ran weedless rudders which always adds a little challenge. Paul rocked the Vega Flex like a boss.

Only wish we’d gone to the harbor. To quote Ananda, it was “super fun”. Mark C went back for more MP laps and I know Wilson & Ana went back for at least one more run.

Marshmallows? It was the giant Stay Puff Man from Ghostbusters!

I ended up jumping into a downwind pod with Kim R., Julie V., Paul R. (all on OC-1s) and Denise W. We put in around 10 from Wildcat. All that east, technical, peaky stuff that others have mentioned - yep, plenty of that. Made it fast and fun to connect waves heading left, but if we'd kept doing that, we'd have ended up at Gooseberry Pt. A little tougher to head right, but still some big rides. As we neared the buoy, I saw Simon out doing laps just in front of and outside me. But as I dropped into the biggest wave of the day, he and the horizon disappeared behind the fast-moving wall of water in front of me. I stayed and did a couple more laps at MP and had some of the fastest connections of the day. I'll be curious to see Denise's GoPro video from today!

Which brings me to the next topic: favorite GPS's or phone apps? I've been using Wahoo on my phone, but the last several times, it has either quit in the middle of my paddle or failed to record distance - even with the screen locked. So all those fast runs? No data. Did they really happen if not recorded by my electronics?

what a great vid!!! question: you work the rails hard, lady! Leaning so much. How is it that the go-pro stays level? (Not to mention how does the boat stay upright.)

Paul… we launched 10ish and it was still super technical. Rebound from the beginning, super steep haystacks at Chuckanut Bay with a strong easterlies, but firmed up super nice from the tunnel to beach! Thank goodness Reivers was lurking about in his Crown Royal mask and helped me pull my canoe out and on to terra firma

Thank goodness your GoPro was pointed forward and didn’t catch me bobbing out there like a 20ft fishing lure :)
Good times all around..

Nice videos, Beau and Denice! Beau gets paddling style points, Denice gets points for video drama and production style.

Add a couple of boat wakes and working across the wind to get out at Marine Park and it was almost as Michael Woods might say - “sporty”
