Found a sports medicine guy, Mike Hill. U of O medical school, former staff guy for their track program. His wife, Darcy, is nutrition person and WWU staff. Maybe Michael M or John R. know her deal. Mike gave up his Eugene practice so they could move up here. Mike is with Performance Health NW. He's got history with Olympic Trials for track (travelled with the U.S. Team). He has dealt with messed up shoulders from various sports, but not sure how much paddling he's tangled with. I like his first impression. This office, Performance NW, does not have an acupuncture person, but they have various resources. Mike's interest spiked a bit on the repetitive stress aspect of paddling. He has DC (Doctor of Chiropractic), but seemed to downplay that. There's also MS, and CCSP in his title. Don't know what that is.
I talked with him this evening. He is son-in-law of my wife's friend, Sandy Gardener. I'm out for this rib thing. I think David is rehabbing a shoulder, Duncan as well. I think it would be good to get the guy to show up at a Wed Niter and see if we can find out if he's a good connection. Seems like each of us has found our own resources by trial and error. I had a Naturopath guy who did great for me, but he's out of the picture now. Maybe if we can get a few of us to meet with this guy at Bloedel after a paddle we can get some advice and show this guy what paddling is. He says he's interested.
Can I get a couple of folks to commit to talking with Mike Hill after a Wed Niter, maybe next week, 5/8/19? Maybe we can get a volume discount since we're all kinda beat up. If it works I'll email the guy and lock it down. Let me know.

Mike Hill is awesome. I give him & his office partner Dr. DeRoche full credit for getting my torn bicep tendon healed this winter. A “renowned” orthopedic doc in town told me rehab wouldn't work and I should just let time heal and to stop paddling. And that it would be 12 weeks before I could train again. I was getting ready to cancel my trip to Maui 2 Molokai but went to see Mike. Both Mike Hill & DeRoche said that was complete B.S. and put me on a regimen of deep laser treatment & very specific weight training. I was back on the water in 4 weeks and back to full-duty at work in 6.

Brad Jones is also fabulous. His background as a swimmer carries over nicely to working with paddlers, although he works with a wide variety of athletes (and non-athletes too!) Most of my Ski to Sea ladies team see Brad. As well as a bunch of our local paddlers.

I only got one response. My idea was for several of us to meet with the Doc after a Wed Niter and explain our sport. Not sure he'll be interested in just talking with me. Hope you guys have fun tonight, I'll be home watching “Red Green” reruns.

Reivers, I note that your multiple injuries are always unrelated to paddling. I can only conclude that you have turned yourself into a finely tuned paddling machine, a thoroughbred. But like the thoroughbred, not well suited for other activities. I think the only solution is to confine yourself to paddling only and exclusively. No cooking, cleaning, home repairs, oil-changing, lawn mowing, furniture moving…nothing. Nothing but paddling, naps and more paddling. Discuss with Hilde and let me know how this idea goes down. Make sure you emphasize to her that you are a finely tuned thoroughbred.
see you on the water when your ribs get better. johnr
